Ecotherapy

Ecotherapy is an umbrella term for interventions within nature that are used to treat one’s well-being.

Ecotherapy is applied Ecopsychology. Ecotherapy is also sometimes referred to as Nature Therapy.

Ecopsychology studies the relationship between human beings and the natural world through ecological and psychological principles.

I provide clients with Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy (MBE), an integrative approach that teaches the basic skills of mindfulness (being present with oneself) and connecting with nature as part of healing. Research continues to demonstrate the healing power of nature.

“This sounds interesting, but what would a typical ecotherapy session look like?”

There is no typical session! Sessions are completely crafted around your needs and can quickly take on a life of their own. We may meet at a park bench, take a walk from my office down Main street, or simply bring nature into the office. There is a lot nature can teach us about ourselves, our struggles, and how to resolve those. Often a session begins by grounding, then an activity based upon needs, and a time for processing afterwards.

“In practical terms, what is Mindfulness based ecotherapy?”

MBE is a blending of mindfulness and Ecopsychology. What that really means is we utilize the benefits of nature elements to facilitate mindful awareness (being fully present in one moment) and experience wholeness.  Being outdoors enhances this experience and provides additional benefits to our whole being.
